Deleting a project in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) involves permanently removing all associated resources, configurations, and data from the project. It is essential to exercise caution while performing this action, as it cannot be undone.

There are things to NOTE before deleting a project from your GCP account.

  1. Consider the consequences: Before deleting a project, it's important to understand the consequences. Deleting a project permanently removes all resources associated with it, including virtual machines, databases, storage buckets, and billing data. Ensure that you have backed up any critical data and understand the impact of deleting the project.

  2. Review permissions: Make sure you have the necessary permissions to delete the project. The project owner or a user with the required IAM (Identity and Access Management) role can delete a project.

  3. Backup data: If you have any important data within the project, create backups or export it to another location to prevent loss. This includes databases, files, configurations, and any other assets that you may need in the future.

  4. Disable billing: If you want to stop incurring charges for the project, disable billing first. Go to the Google Cloud Console, navigate to the Billing section, and disable billing for the project. This ensures that you won't be billed for any resources after deletion.

  5. Delete resources: Delete or remove any resources within the project that you no longer need. This may include virtual machines, databases, storage buckets, network configurations, or any other resources that you have created.

  6. Delete the project: Once you have reviewed the consequences, backed up critical data, disabled billing, and remove resources, you can proceed with deleting the project.
